Before you hire

Ask this of anyone you are considering for the work — including someone who is not a LEO member:

  • How are you paid — fee, commission, or both?
  • Are you held to a fiduciary standard on this account?
  • What happens to this plan in a bad year, and how often will we revisit it?

What's different in South Florida

South Florida has an unusually high share of people who arrived here at or near retirement, often carrying plans built under another state's tax rules and a different cost of living. Two things routinely need revisiting after a move: how much guaranteed income the household actually has, and whether an estate plan drafted elsewhere still does what it was meant to. Neither is urgent until it is.
